Biography

Alexandra Cowell

Soprano Alexandra Cowell trained as a flautist at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and Indiana University Jacobs School of Music before pursuing opera. She began in the chorus of Opera San Jose in California, singing Mother/Sandman/Dew Fairy (Hansel and Gretel), and covering Bianca (La Rondine) and Poussette (Manon).

Alexandra has an MA in Opera Performance from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama where she was supported by a Leverhulme Scholarship, and sang the roles of Female Chorus (The Rape of Lucretia), First Lady (The Magic Flute) and Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte).

Recent roles include Ariadne (Ariadne auf Naxos) in a workshop with Alistair Dawes and Barefoot Opera, Mimì (La Boheme) with Clyde Opera andFirst Lady (The Magic Flute) with St John’s Opera. She was a finalist in the Emmy Destinn Foundation Young Singer Competition. Current projects include workshopping an exciting new production of Hänsel und Gretel with her current teacher, Jenny Miller. Alexandra also works frequently with Rogue Opera, performing both Micaëla and Frasquita in Carmen, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, and assisting in corporate workshops with the company.
